Modular Drum Conveyor

The Modular Drum Conveyor (MDC) forms the backbone of Polimak Space’s regolith pipeline. Designed specifically for lunar environments, it features a rotating pipe with an internal helix, enabling continuous, dust-controlled regolith transport. The system minimizes moving parts to reduce wear and failure risks, while its scalable, modular design allows for flexible deployment across different mission architectures. MDC seamlessly connects excavation sites to ISRU plants, acting as a reliable regolith delivery system across varied lunar terrains. Its adaptability to different lengths, inclinations, and integration with rovers or static stations positions it as a fundamental enabler of large-scale ISRU activities.

  • Patented design, a rotating drum with integrated helical flights enclosed in a pipe.

  • Minimal wear and dust generation.

  • Functions under vacuum and low-gravity conditions.

  • Modular design allows extension or reconfiguration.

  • Applications: Regolith transport between excavation sites, stockpiles, ISRU plants, and construction areas.

Modular Regolith Handling Systems

At the heart of our innovation is the Modular Drum Conveyor (MDC) system: a patented, dust-controlled, energy-efficient technology designed for lunar environments.
We offer a complete ecosystem of modules, including:

  • Excavation Systems: Rover-mounted MDCs for efficient regolith collection.

  • Delivery and Conveying: Seamless regolith pipelines over the lunar surface.

  • Sieving Units: Particle size separation for optimized resource processing.

  • Preheating Modules: Solar or electric heating to prepare regolith for oxygen extraction, volatile release, and construction.

  • Stockpiling Systems: Dust-minimized regolith storage and thermal energy retention.

  • Thermal Energy Storage: Harvest and store heat to survive lunar nights.

  • Multi-Sensor Feeding Modules: Deliver precise regolith samples to XRF, water analyzers, and mineralogical sensors.

  • Processing Modules: End-to-end material handling, heating, and biomining for ISRU operations.

Why Regolith Pipelines for ISRU?

In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) requires continuous, reliable regolith supply for:

  • Oxygen Extraction (e.g., electrolysis of regolith oxides)

  • Water Extraction (e.g., heating icy regolith)

  • Construction Materials (e.g., 3D printing landing pads, habitats)

  • Radiation Shielding (e.g., filling sandbags or flexible structures)

  • Lunar Night Survival (e.g., regolith thermal energy storage)

Problem:
Current solutions (rovers, haulers) are expensive, energy-intensive, and unsuitable for industrial-scale material movement.

Our Solution:
Polimak’s Modular Regolith Pipeline delivers dust-controlled, energy-efficient, and continuous material flow, drastically reducing the operational burden on rovers and enhancing the reliability of lunar ISRU operations.
